Our Commitment to Safety

This is purely for fun and entertainment. We've carefully designed DKUmash with multiple safeguards to prevent bullying and ensure a positive experience for everyone.

Source of Photos: All photos are from the DKU yearbook, publicly available to all students. We didn't hack or obtain these images inappropriately.

Photo Quality: Student directory photos aren't professional headshots - they're not meant to be anyone's "best" photo. Beauty is completely subjective anyway.

Leaderboard Protection: We only show the top 30 people (top 10%) on the leaderboard. No one can see who ranks lower, preventing anyone from being labeled as "least attractive."

Just for Fun: This is a lighthearted social experiment for our signature work project. Rankings don't represent truth, merit, or any official standing.

Community Respect: We encourage everyone to participate respectfully and remember this is all in good fun among the DKU community.

Don't Be a Pussy

Look, we get it - not everyone will love this project. But reporting is pussy behavior. We're just trying to have some harmless fun with a social experiment.

If you have genuine concerns or complaints, email us at dkumash@proton.me instead of running to administration. We're reasonable people and will listen to legitimate feedback.

Remember: DKUmash will be shut down on October 1st, 2025 at 23:59, it's just for fun, and nobody is getting hurt. Chill out and either participate or ignore it.

If you want to report us, we made sure that it's hard to track us down. You can just try to hack us instead - check out our security measures. If you can actually hack us, please land us a mail, as we are looking for talents to build real, complex projects.

DKUmash is a fun, lighthearted social experiment created as part of our signature work project. All photos are from the DKU student yearbook, and rankings are crowdsourced opinions that don't represent any official standing or truth about anyone's worth.

How to Join

Want to add yourself to DKUmash? Here's how:

  1. Sign up: Create an account using your email address
  2. Upload your photo: Once signed in, use the upload feature to submit your photo
  3. Wait for review: All photos go through a moderation process to ensure they meet our guidelines
  4. Start competing: After approval, your photo will be added to the voting pool and leaderboard

Note: All uploaded photos start with a rating of 1200 points and begin appearing in votes immediately after approval.

How Rating Works

DKUmash uses the ELO rating system, the same mathematical framework used in chess, competitive gaming, and sports rankings. Here's how it works:

Basic Concept

Every photo starts with a rating of 1200 points. When two photos compete in a vote, the system calculates the probability of each winning based on their current ratings. The winner gains points, and the loser loses points.

Mathematical Formula

Expected Score = 1 / (1 + 10^((Rb - Ra) / 400))
New Rating = Old Rating + K Ɨ (Actual - Expected)

Where:

  • Ra = Rating of photo A
  • Rb = Rating of photo B
  • K = K-factor (32 for new photos, 16 for established ones)
  • Actual = 1 if won, 0 if lost
  • Expected = Calculated probability of winning

What This Means

  • Upset victories matter more: If a lower-rated photo beats a higher-rated one, it gains more points
  • Expected wins matter less: Beating someone with a much lower rating gives fewer points
  • Ratings stabilize over time: The more votes a photo gets, the more accurate its rating becomes
  • Relative rankings: A 1400-rated photo is statistically expected to beat a 1200-rated photo about 76% of the time

Anti-Farming Protection

To maintain fair competition and prevent vote manipulation, DKUmash implements a 5-vote limit per person. Once you've voted for the same person 3 times, they will be automatically excluded from your future voting pairs.

  • Prevents ELO farming: You can't repeatedly vote for yourself or friends to artificially inflate ratings
  • Encourages diversity: Forces voters to engage with a wider variety of photos
  • Maintains integrity: Ensures ratings reflect genuine community consensus, not coordinated voting
  • Fresh pairs: When the 3-vote limit is reached, you'll automatically get a new pair that doesn't include people you've already voted for 3 times

Security

DKUmash implements comprehensive security measures and anonymity protections. We've invested significant time making sure it will be difficult to track us down. Trying to break us down will result in a permanent ban from the website. But if you succeed, make sure to check Console.

Note: This project will be shut down in a matter of weeks anyway, so don't waste your time trying to find us.
